You Can Now Use a QR Code to Show Proof of Vaccination in Virginia!
COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective and readily available, but many of us have a couple of common gripes about COVID-19 Vaccination Record Cards. First of all, they are paper documents, making them easy to lose and inconvenient in a mostly digital world. And second, the cards are even too big for most wallets.
But if you were vaccinated in Virginia, you can now use a QR code – the “quick response” barcode used by many retail businesses, sporting venues and more – to verify your vaccination status, thanks to the Virginia Department of Health (VDH). To get your QR code, just follow these steps:
1. Go to vaccinate.virginia.gov
2. Scroll down and select “Need a copy of your vaccination record?”
3. Enter your name, date of birth and zip code
4. Follow the instructions to save your QR code to your phone’s photo album or documents, print a copy on paper or store it in a compatible account
The QR codes are not just more convenient, they’re also more secure. The codes include VDH’s digital signature, meaning they can’t be forged.
You can find more information in VDH’s press release.
