The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the Manassas Campus will bring award-winning journalist and celebrated NPR podcast host Gene Demby to NOVA on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 3 p.m. Demby will be giving remarks about the importance of diversity, with a focus on college life, followed by an open discussion with faculty, staff and students. If you have a question for Mr. Demby, please e-mail it to Ed Aymar at eaymar@nvcc.edu at the Office of DEI.

All NOVA faculty, staff, and students are welcome to attend by registering at the Zoom link for the October DEI Spotlight Event.

Mr. Demby is the founding co-host of NPR’s popular Code Switch podcast, winner of the 2014 Online News Association Award for Commentary and the 2021 Apple Podcast of the Year. Prior to NPR, Demby served as the managing editor for Huffington Post‘s BlackVoices following its launch, and before that he spent six years at The New York Times where he started PostBourgie, a blog about race, culture, politics and media, which won the 2009 Black Weblog Award for Best News/Politics Site. Mr. Demby is an avid runner, mainly because he wants to stay alive long enough to finally see the Sixers and Eagles win championships in their respective sports. You can follow him on Twitter at @GeeDee215.
