Course Directives/Subs/Advisement Reports Webinar Recording and Helpful Tips

October 13, 2021 / Faculty/Staff Highlights

Thank you to all those who were able to join the Academic Affairs webinar on Course Directives/Subs and Advisement Reports on September 28. If you were unable to join, the presentation, the slides and recording can be found under Announcements on our Academic Affairs Canvas site.

As there were many follow up questions, we are going to reschedule a second webinar for later in the semester to fully address your concerns.

Here are some helpful tips to keep in mind as you are working with students this fall:

  • Advisement reports are the students’ official degree audit. They determine graduation eligibility and financial aid eligibility of courses.
  • Course directives are used when courses need to be moved to satisfy different requirements on an advisement report but still meet catalog requirements (e.g. move ENG 251 from Humanities/Fine Arts Elective to satisfy ENG 200-level Literature Elective instead).
  • Course substitutions should be used when a student takes or has taken a course that is not approved by the catalog to satisfy a program requirement.
    • Anyone with access can submit a course substitution request for a student.
    • Use the comment box to include as much information as possible to reduce delays. For non-NOVA courses, please include the course description and/or syllabus.
  • Students must meet the minimum number of credits required for the program and all program requirements. Some programs have optional course requirements; make sure to read the catalog footnotes carefully.
  • Students can only be program placed in two associate degree programs at one time.
  • The academics@nvcc.edu email is for course directives, help with the course substitution form, credit for prior learning questions or other queries that cannot be handled by the CRO. As a reminder, this email is for faculty/staff only.

If you have any questions about the information covered in our webinar, please do not hesitate to email us at academics@nvcc.edu.
