Thursday, October 14

Student Foreign Policy Symposium: Esperanza, for the Next Diverse Generation of Foreign Policy Leaders (virtual)

Sponsored and hosted by the Hispanic Council of Foreign Affairs Agencies, this is a day-long event in collaboration with the Department of State’s Bureau of Global Public Affairs, specifically targeting Hispanics and LatinX students that are interested in pursuing a career in international affairs. There will also be an opportunity at the end of the symposium for attendees to meet with recruiters and network within the department. 

The Road to Equity-Conscious Research in Cybersecurity (virtual)

“A discussion that includes a foundational understanding of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and why it’s important in cybersecurity. Keynote speaker Gloria Ladson-Billings, the president of the National Academy of Education, will introduce the concept of culturally relevant teaching methods, followed by a panel that will share their best hacks to ensure diversity in their programs.” This event is sponsored and hosted by CCI , the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative. Coming Out Workshop (in-person)

Curious about the LGBTQ+ coming out process? Know someone who is “coming out” but are unsure of how to support them? Come learn about Moss’s six stages of coming out and how they could potentially play a role in your life.   • The Annandale Campus Library is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a display just outside the library doors in the CG Building (third floor) through October 15th. You can also find resources about Hispanic Heritage Month online through the library.
  • The recording of September’s inaugural Spotlight event, featuring award-winning poet, novelist and professor Javier Avila is available for viewing for all NOVA faculty, staff and students. Visit the September Spotlight page on the DEI Site to watch it and for more information about this and other events.
  • October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and was recently recognized by the state of Virginia.
