Did You Know: If You’re Vaccinated but Think You’ve Been Exposed, There’s Guidance for That?

October 26, 2021 / Uncategorized

Cold and flu season is upon us and the COVID-19 pandemic is wearing on (although cases are dropping!) Unfortunately, though, in the coming weeks and months, some of us may wonder if we have COVID-19 or whether we’ve been exposed. Below are a few helpful resources and reminders if you’ve been vaccinated but think you may have been exposed to COVID.

Is it COVID-19, a cold, flu or allergies? This Mayo Clinic article compares COVID-19 symptoms with those of a cold, the flu or seasonal allergies.

If you are fully vaccinated and show symptoms of COVID-19 or have reason to believe you are infected, contact a healthcare professional and get tested for COVID-19. Additional information can be found in the CDC guidelines.

If you are vaccinated and come into close contact (within six feet for more than 15 minutes) with a COVID-19 positive individual, the CDC recommends that you:

  • Continue to wear a face covering for 14 days and
  • Get tested five to seven days post-exposure
  • No quarantine or isolation is required.

If you test positive after five to seven days after exposure, you should notify NOVA’s Office of Emergency Management and Safety at OEM@nvcc.edu and quarantine for seven days post-diagnosis as required by the College Contagious Diseases Policy.
