Updates and Other Things
Today’s Topic Is a Short Series of Updates on Past Posts, But First…
A big and boldly NOVA thank you (!!!) to all who have worked over the past years to prepare for this week’s SACSCOC accreditation reaffirmation visit. Hundreds of NOVA faculty and staff contributed to this process, reviewing every aspect of our outstanding college to demonstrate our commitment to and compliance with the SACSCOC Principles of Accreditation, including the design of our QEP, “Writing Ourselves In.” Now, this week, dozens of NOVA faculty, staff and students will be meeting with the visiting team and touring our campuses and off-site locations with team members. Behind the scenes, dozens more have organized the logistics of the travel, housing, meals, technology and transportation for our visitors—making them feel welcome at our college. My appreciation to our NOVA community and our SACSCOC onsite visiting team for the time, energy and effort they have put into this important peer review process!
Now, onto the updates (alphabetical):
Administrative Council Searches
The search committees for both the MEC Provost (chair, Alexandria Provost Annette Haggray) and VP for Enrollment Management and Student Success (chair, Woodbridge Provost Sam Hill) have started, assisted by search firm Greenwood/Asher. Both positions have drawn strong, diverse pools of well-qualified candidates. The MEC Provost Search began first, has completed initial interviews and anticipates inviting candidates to campus in November.
Committee Appointments
Many of the appointments to NOVA’s standing committees come to my office as nominations from the College Senate. As Chair Aldous McCrory noted in the Forum newsletter, the College Senate continues to seek individuals willing to serve on a number of committees for this academic year. In the interim, however, there are five committees whose work must move forward: Awards, Budget Advisory, Commencement, Curriculum and Violence Prevention. They have begun their work for the year.
President’s Office NOVAnet Sharepoint Site
My office now has a Sharepoint site on NOVAnet, complete with a growing searchable library of memos/reports and links to the videos of Zoom office hours. Remember that you must login to access the NOVA intranet. Many thanks to those who suggested adding these features as a way of increasing communication and transparency.
Remember: NOVA is Closed November 2 for Election Day
Election Day is now an official Virginia state holiday, meaning that NOVA will be closed on November 2. Please use this day to exercise your right to vote and encourage your students to do so, too. (Or, vote early!) You can find your polling location here.
