Help Our Grads Celebrate! Volunteers Still Needed for Winter Commencement
NOVA’s Commencement Committee, chaired by Dr. Syedur Rahman, interim VP for enrollment management and student success, is busy making plans for the inaugural Winter Commencement to be held Tuesday, Dec. 14 at the Schlesinger Center at the Alexandria Campus!
Our theme will be “Go Boldly”! There will be three commencement ceremonies on Dec. 14 at 10 a.m., 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The ceremonies will be divided alphabetically by graduates’ last names. The need for three ceremonies is due to the size of the Schlesinger Center in relation to the number of graduates, their two allowable guests as well as the participating faculty/staff and platform party.
We hope that you will consider attending all three ceremonies, but if you are not able to, please try to support our students by attending at least one. It means so much to our students to share this day with faculty and staff who helped them achieve their dream.
We are also in need of faculty and staff volunteers to serve at one or all the ceremonies. We anticipate needing 70 volunteers per ceremony (and we’re not quite halfway there), so please consider serving as a general volunteer or faculty marshal. Volunteers can choose from various schedules and assignments. Orientation and training will be provided. All NOVA faculty and staff are welcome to join! Please register to volunteer here. For more information, email us at novagradteam@nvcc.edu.
Those who would like to volunteer to help with Commencement should consult with their supervisor and arrange for appropriate work coverage prior to signing up.
