Indigenous Youth Leader and Climate Activist Nina Berglund
Loudoun Campus, HEC-203
Description: The Office of DEI, in partnership with the Loudoun Campus, welcomes Nina Berglund to NOVA! Ms. Berglund will discuss the importance of Native American and Indigenous Cultures in America, how people can best advocate for social issues, and the importance of combatting climate change and its cultural impact. Her keynote address followed by a discussion with NOVA students, faculty, and staff. For more information about this event, please visit the DEI site. One Day Immersion in Media, Entertainment & Technology Conference

Description: Sponsored by ODI, the theme of this year’s conference is “One Diverse Industry” and features keynote addresses from Gloria Steinem, Cheryl Wills, George Cheeks, Rebekah Dopp, and Devin Johnson. The conference is free to attend and, in addition to the keynote addresses, includes a variety of panel sessions focusing on entertainment, media, and technology.
Other quick notes:
- November is National Native American Heritage Month! Originally envisioned as only a single day of recognition at the start of the twentieth century, National Native American Heritage Month was formally recognized by the United States in 1990 and has been celebrated every November since.
- Annandale’s Campus Library is celebrating National Native American Heritage Month with a display right outside the library’s doors! You can also see an online guide for resources here.
- The recording of October’s Spotlight Event, featuring NPR’s Gene Demby, is available for viewing for all NOVA faculty, staff, and students. Visit the October Spotlight page on the DEI site to watch it and for more information about the event.
