It Just Keeps Getting Better: NOVA’s Editorial Calendar

November 1, 2021 / General NOVA News

Since we launched NOVA’s Editorial Calendar earlier this month, many of you have submitted requests or reached out to send feedback or ask a question. To each and every one of you, thank you! With your feedback in mind, we worked with Enterprise Application Services (thank you, Carlo!) to make a few updates.

Date/Time Information
There is now an “All Day” option in the Request Date and Time section. Please check this box for any request that lasts all day (such as the International Day of Women and Girls in the Science, for example) or for those that do not have a specific time attached (like marking 50 days until Winter Commencement).

Every Student Succeeds, Every Program Achieves, Every Community Prospers
These three pillars guide NOVA’s work to support our students and the region. With that in mind, we added a question asking you to check which pillar(s) your request supports.

There is also a “None of the Above” option for requests/dates such as Thanksgiving (although you could say that we’re thankful for our students, programs and community).

Requested Communications Products and Amplification
By filling out this section of the Editorial Calendar Submission Form, you are kicking off a conversation about how the Comms team will amplify your event or opportunity! For example, you might ask for a media advisory (event announcement to press), press release (more elaborated statement to media), social media amplification or design/photo/video/marketing support.

Once the form is approved by your supervisor and the relevant Administrative Council member, the Communications team will review your request. We may suggest additional or different communications products or tactics at times, but this will be a collaborative conversation as we work to finalize a communications plan.

Once that is finalized, we will approve the request and it will be officially added to the calendar.

Location
In the location details section, there is a check box for virtual events. If you check this box, you do not need to include location information, unless it is a hybrid event (with some attendees participating on-site and some via Zoom, for example).

Supervisor and Administrative Council Approvals
Once you submit a request, the form is routed to your supervisor and then the relevant Administrative Council member. This gives each of them a chance to see the request and add comments if needed. While supervisors who are also Administrative Council members initially had to approve the form twice (sorry!), the form will now auto-approve requests (essentially skipping the Admin Council step) if the supervisor and Administrative Council member are the same person.

Supervisors and Administrative Council members: you may receive an automated reminder if you have requests to approve.

If you have any questions or feedback as you continue to use the form, we want to hear from you! Please contact Sam El-Aker, helaker@nvcc.edu or Dawn Selak, dselak@nvcc.edu.
