Facilities Planning and Support Saves NOVA Over $60K in Electric Expenses

November 9, 2021 / General NOVA News

Facilities Planning and Support Services (FPSS) and the six campus facilities offices not only maintain our buildings and grounds, they also monitor our energy and water expenditures to safeguard college resources and Commonwealth taxpayer dollars. As part of these ongoing efforts, FPSS monitors an electrical utility invoice component called Contract Minimum Demand (CMD). This contract value can be reduced, but only if the customer (NOVA) is aware that it exists, understands the circumstances that might provide a reduction and proactively asks the utility for an account review. Recent CMD review requests to Dominion Energy returned an estimated $40,000 and $22,000 in annual savings for the MEC and Loudoun campuses, respectively.
