NOVA Serves: Afghan Refugee Donations Accepted thru Nov. 19

A group of our stellar Nighthawks have united for a great cause! As you may know, there has been a critical influx of Afghan refugees due to the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan. Currently, there are thousands of refugees in multiple bases across the United States, including in Virginia, waiting to be processed and start their new lives. The refugees left their homes hastily and have arrived with nothing more than the clothes on their backs and the hopes of a better life. Children arrived at the airport with dirty and tattered clothes, many even shoeless. Mothers clung to their newborn babies without access to diapers, wipes, formula or pacifiers. Winter is fast approaching and their needs are still dire.

We are uniting as one NOVA community to host an Afghan Refugee Donation Drive to help this cause. Please consider donating! Items that are most needed are outlined below. (Kindly wash and fold any gently used items for donation. All undergarments must be new.) Winter clothes and jackets are essential at this time

  • women’s underwear and bras – all sizes
  • men’s and women’s sizes 7-9 shoes (closed-toe, not sandals)
  • sweaters
  • baby powder, baby lotion, baby shampoo
  • baby strollers, baby carriers, pacifiers
  • shampoo
  • Vaseline / petroleum jelly
  • razors
  • hair oil
  • school supplies (pens, pencils, paper, notebooks)
  • religious items (prayer rugs, Qurans)

This GoFundMe is an option to help the poor souls who are dying from hunger in Afghanistan.

Student Life Offices across the college will be taking donations now up until Friday, November 19.

Financial Aid Offices across the college will be taking donations ongoing now and through the winter season.
