Give Back this Season to Nighthawk Nest Food Pantries “Happy Holidays” Food Drive

November 29, 2021 / General NOVA News

Feeding America® estimates that 17 million people (5.1%) may have experienced very low food security in 2020, and 15 million people (4.6%) may experience it in 2021. Seeing these projections, as we approach a time of year where many celebrate the holidays with a festive meal, we should also remember our students and their families  experiencing food insecurities during this time.

As we celebrate the upcoming holidays, on Monday, Nov. 22 through Friday Dec. 17, NOVA’s Nighthawk Nest food pantries will be having a “Happy Holidays” food drive. Each food pantry will collect traditional holiday food items, in addition to other items needed on a regular basis for the pantry.

Holiday food items:

  • Instant mashed potatoes
  • Boxed stuffing mix
  • Boxed Macaroni and Cheese
  • Canned vegetables
  • Canned yams
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Cornbread mix
  • Biscuit Mix
  • Gravy

Additional Needed Items:

  • Canned Goods: beans, tuna, vegetables, fruit & fruit cups, soup, tomato sauce, juices
  • Box/Dry: ready-made/microwave/add water meals, soups, cereal, oatmeal, rice, beans, pasta, granola/protein bars, snacks
  • Jar: peanut butter, jelly, pasta sauce
