MEC’s Angela Brocker Awarded Chancellor’s Fellowship!
NOVA congratulates MEC Nursing Skills Lab Manager Angela Brocker on her receipt of the VCCS’ Chancellor’s Fellowship. Brocker, along with Germanna Community College’s Jordan Hewett have been awarded the prestigious Chancellor’s Fellowship to help them advance their careers through graduate study. A nursing skills lab manager at NOVA, Brocker is seeking her Ph.D. in Nursing at George Mason and is eligible for up to a year’s leave of absence with three-quarters pay and benefits, plus a grant to cover educational costs and expenses.
“The Chancellor’s Fellowship for Classified Staff is a wonderful opportunity for me to begin work toward a PhD in Nursing. Research has always been an interest of mine and this award makes juggling a family, career and further academic pursuits possible. Thank you so much for this opportunity!”
The purpose of the Chancellor’s Fellowship is to ensure that capable people within the VCCS have the opportunity to prepare themselves for top-level management and instructional positions within the VCCS. This can be accomplished by earning two types of doctoral degrees: community college leadership/higher education degrees or discipline-based degrees.
Selection of each Chancellor’s Fellow is made by a committee comprised of one college president, one vice president or provost, chair of the Chancellor’s Faculty Advisory Council, three members of the VCCS Professional Development Committee and the Director of Faculty Development. Interviews of applicants may be required.
