NOVA President to Serve on U.S. Dept. of Ed. Rulemaking Committee
After being nominated by the Association of American Community Colleges (AACC) and the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT), Dr. Kress was selected by the U.S. Department of Education to represent all community colleges in this spring’s negotiated rulemaking sessions. These virtual sessions, week-long commitments spread across three months, will prepare proposed federal regulations on institutional and programmatic eligibility subject to oversight by the U.S. Department of Education. The negotiations will have significant impact on community colleges and NOVA’s students.
“As negotiators, we will review and reach consensus votes on proposed regulations related to central aspects of Title IV (federal financial aid) eligibility and implementation of the federal Higher Education Act,” Dr. Kress said. “I am honored to have been asked to play this role and look forward to the work.”
The mission and goal of the Negotiated Rulemaking Committee is to develop proposed student financial assistance regulations per Section 492 of the Higher Education Act of 1965.
