Share Your Thoughts on NOVA’s Academic Structure
In fall 2018, NOVA adopted a new academic structure. Now that the structure has been in place for several years, Vice President and Chief Academic Officer Eun-Woo Chang, the six provosts, and AVP for Human Resources Charlotte Calobrisi are seeking your feedback about how it is working to achieve the college mission and goals and what adjustments we might want to consider. We are inviting you to provide your input via “ThoughtExchange.” This exchange is primarily intended for those who are familiar with our academic structure, but others are also welcome to comment.
Some of the principal features of the current academic organization about which we invite feedback may include but are not limited to:
- Common structure for deans and faculty across the comprehensive campuses (MSTB and LASS); collegewide structure for IET.
- The introduction of associate deans
- Most academic deans have both collegewide pathway and campus-facing responsibilities with faculty reporting to a campus dean; the IET academic dean’s responsibilities are primarily collegewide, and IET faculty report to the IET dean.
- Guided pathways with pathway councils and discipline groups
As you answer the questions, consider the features of the current academic structure and how they support your daily work. Please note that we also ask that you provide your role information (full-time teaching faculty, adjunct teaching faculty, etc.) and your level of engagement with the current structure.
Since transparency and communication are critical, the compiled results will be shared with all employees and we will provide more opportunities to discuss this topic further during the spring semester. All input given is valuable and every response will be considered. Thank you in advance for providing feedback on this important matter.
NOTE: You can submit multiple thoughts, go back and forth between rating thoughts and sharing new ones. If you would like to read and rate thoughts before sharing yours, you can do that, too.
This exchange is confidential; your identifying information will not be attached. The survey will remain open through Monday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m.
