Updates on Two Important Searches

February 1, 2022 / Tuesday Topics

Today’s topic is an update on two administrative searches, one at NOVA and one at VCCS.

Annandale Provost
The committee for the Annandale Provost search has been established. Chaired by Loudoun Provost Julie Leidig, the committee includes the following members from the Annandale Campus (in alpha order) in addition to Search Advocate Bruna Soria-Galvarro (HR):

  • Jennifer Daniels, Academic Dean, LASS
  • Kelly DeSenti, Associate Dean of Students
  • Judith Gomez, Administrative Coordinator to the Dean and Compliance Manager, LASS
  • Manori Nadesalingam, Professor, Physics
  • Ramon Perez, Professor, ESL
  • Erica Smith, Professor, Sociology
  • Ben Wang, Associate Academic Dean, MSTB

Greenwood/Asher search firm is assisting this process to ensure that NOVA develops a strong, deep and diverse pool of qualified candidates. The firm also supported the recently concluded searches for the next MEC Provost and the VP for Enrollment Management and Student Success.

The work of the search committee will conclude this semester with a goal of having the next Annandale Provost named by mid-May. I anticipate that the finalists will be invited to campus in late March to early April. These visits will include an Annandale Campus Open Forum and meetings with campus stakeholder groups, including students. As always, the NOVA community will be invited to share their feedback on the finalists.

The Annandale Provost position announcement is posted on the Greenwood/Asher website, and I hope you will share it within your networks or consider applying.

VCCS Chancellor Search
The search for the next VCCS Chancellor continues. Unlike most searches within the system, this one is being conducted privately with periodic updates from the VCCS Board Chair, Nathaniel L. Bishop. In addition to a number of VCCS Trustees, the search committee includes two students, a faculty member, a president, a member of system leadership and the board chair of the Virginia Foundation for Community College Education. This search is also being assisted by Greenwood/Asher; you can find the position profile here.

VCCS Board Chair Bishop was recently interviewed by the VCCS “Take 5” blog about the search. He noted the listening sessions that took place leading up to the process and provided an update on the system’s approach to and progress in the search, indicating that the goal is to have the next Chancellor in place by July 1.

As additional updates are provided, I will share them with you.
