Registration for Mental Health First Aid Is Open!

The Office of Wellness and Mental Health is pleased to announce two Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training sessions for spring 2022 for NOVA staff and faculty. Mental Health First Aid is a certification course that teaches participants how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives participants the skills needed to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis.

Participants will complete a two-hour, self-paced online class and then participate in two three-hour, instructor-led video conferences.

What it covers:

  • Common signs and symptoms of mental illness
  • Common signs and symptoms of substance use
  • How to interact with a person in crisis
  • How to connect the person with help
  • NEW: Expanded content on trauma, addiction, and self-care

The first virtual training session will be offered Tuesday, March 8 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. AND Tuesday, March 15 from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. (registration closes February 25). 

The second virtual training session will be offered Tuesday, April 5 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. AND Tuesday, April 12 from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. (registration closes March 25).

Sessions are limited to 22 participants each, with five participants on the waiting list. For additional information and to register, complete this form.
