Nominations for Forum Council Due Feb. 18
On behalf of the Elections and Credentials Committee, we encourage you to participate in our college governance, officially known as the College Forum Council.
If you are interested in serving on a Forum Council, and possibly on the College Senate, please consider nominating yourself or encouraging colleagues to nominate themselves.
Why participate in Forum Council? Here’s what your current representatives have to say (via Thought Exchange):
Top Ten Reasons to Run for Forum Council
- “I was asked by someone that I respect very much to consider participating in it. I also thought it was a great way to address campus-based concerns. It’s important to have a group to formally discuss any issues or concerns that arise. And, to have a group that interacts with the College Senate.”
- “I also like regularly interacting with colleagues whose paths wouldn’t usually cross with mine.”
- “It can be frustrating how slowly things move at NOVA, but being on the council give you insights and a voice in the process. Understanding NOVA’s limitation and relationships to the VCCS and state government can help you to understand how to change things!”
- “We all encounter college policies/practices that don’t make sense to us. Forum Council gives us the opportunity to implement positive change. Those who work with students every day need to have a voice in college policy.”
- “I wanted to learn more about what was going on at the college and I wanted to meet staff who were from different departments. It’s important to learn more about the college than just your department. There are many things going on and it is a great way to learn and share.”
- “To be ‘in the know'” about goings on around the college Stuff happens. At least you can see it coming…”
- “From its inception, I thought this Council would be a voice for College Staff in the governance process so that all employees are involved in transparent governance.”
- “Forum Council gives you an outlet to address concerns. It’s a privilege to be part of shared governance as not all schools have the level we offer.”
- “It’s an opportunity to share ideas with colleagues who want to implement positive change. Gives everyone a say in the direction of the college.”
- “Everyone at NOVA should consider serving on the FC because it gives us an opportunity to be part of an amazing college community.”
