Hip Hop and the Blues, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.
This Thursday, the Office of DEI is excited to bring rappers Raw Poetic, Damu the Fudgemunk and D.C.’s “Queen of the Blues” Carly Harvey to NOVA for a pair of lively performances, followed by a discussion of their respective genres. This unique event will take place on Thursday, Feb. 24, from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Ernst Center Theater on the Annandale Campus.
Raw Poetic (Jason Moore) was born in Philadelphia, Pa. and then settled in the D.C. area. He has partnered with his close friend, Damu the Fudgemunk (Earl Davis), an American hip-hop producer, multi-instrumentalist, DJ and rapper. Recently and notably, the two recorded and released an improvised album titled Ocean Bridges with celebrated jazz musician Archie Shepp.
Based out of Washington, D.C., WAMMIE award-winning blues musician Carly Harvey is a two-time D.C. Blues Society Battle of the Bands Winner, and was proclaimed D.C.’s Queen of the Blues by WPFW Radio. Her band, Kiss & Ride, has represented Washington D.C. in the International Blues Challenge. In 2021, Carly was nominated 7 times and won the WAMMIE award for Best Blues Artist/Band.
This event is presented by the Office of DEI and the Annandale Campus, through a grant from the Micron Foundation. For more information, or if you need accommodations to attend, please contact the Office of DEI. This event is open all NOVA faculty, staff, and students, as well as the general public, but registration is recommended to receive any last-minute updates.
