The Office of Wellness and Mental Health is pleased to announce two MHFA training sessions for spring 2022 for NOVA staff and faculty. Mental Health First Aid is a certification course that teaches participants how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives participants the skills needed to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis. Participants will complete a two-hour, self-paced online class, and then participate in two three-hour instructor-led video conferences.

There are 12 openings, and five wait-list spots remaining for session 2 which will be held on:
Tuesday, April 5 
from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. AND Tuesday, April 12 from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. (Registration closes March 25.)

  • Common signs and symptoms of mental illness
  • Common signs and symptoms of substance use
  • How to interact with a person in crisis
  • How to connect the person with help
  • NEW: Expanded content on trauma, addiction, and self-care
