Tonight: Come Celebrate Hip Hop and the Blues!

February 24, 2022 / Events

Join us tonight from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. for a rousing evening of performances from acclaimed rappers Raw Poetic and Damu and D.C.’s “Queen of the Blues,” Carly Harvey, at the Ernst Center Theater on Annandale’s Campus.

Raw Poetic (Jason Moore) was born in Philadelphia and settled in the D.C. metro area. He has partnered with his close friend, Damu the Fudgemunk (Earl Davis), an American hip-hop producer, multi-instrumentalist, DJ and rapper. Recently and notably, the two recorded and released a celebrated, improvised album titled Ocean Bridges with celebrated jazz musician Archie Shepp.

Based out of Washington, D.C., WAMMIE award-winning blues musician Carly Harvey is a two-time D.C. Blues Society Battle of the Bands Winner and was proclaimed D.C.’s Queen of the Blues by WPFW Radio. Her band, Kiss & Ride, has represented Washington, D.C. in the International Blues Challenge. In 2021, Carly was nominated seven times and won the WAMMIE award for Best Blues Artist/Band.
