March 25, 2022 / General NOVA News

Below are a few of the events and activities that President Kress participated in this week.

Wednesday, March 23
NOVA celebrated International Data Center Day by hosting a site visit for the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE). The event, held at the Regional Workforce Center at NOVA’s Woodbridge Campus, focused on how to make seamless pathways from technical education to the technology workforce. It rounded out ACTE’s National Policy Seminar, which was sponsored by the National Association of Homebuilders and Deborah Malone, COO of the association.

Dr. Kress; U.S. Congressman Gerry Conolly; Buddy Rizer, executive director for economic development in Loudoun County and member of the NOVA Foundation Board; Prince William Supervisor Victor Angry; Ann Wheeler, chair-at-large of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors; and LeAnn Wilson, executive director of ACTE, discussed the importance of creating collaborative partnerships for community success.

NOVA’s VP of IET and College Computing Chad Knights also introduced the group to Michael Whitlock, the General Manager of Sabey Data Centers, who also serves as president of Potomac AFCOM; Deby Martinez Castellanos, NOVA Data Center Operations Student; and Professor Amir Mehmood, NOVA Professor and Data Center Operations Lead.

Thursday, March 24
Dr. Kress attended the Juried Student Fine Arts Exhibition Reception at the Alexandria Campus. The Alexandria Student Juried Fine Arts Exhibition is a yearly event juried by an outside professional jurist to select a visual exhibition for public viewing. This serves as the culmination of the past year’s studio art coursework from painting, drawing, design, ceramics and sculpture and is a teaching tool to educate the students about professional practices for fine arts exhibitions and competitions. The reception honors the student work and allows the interaction with the juror for questions, network with their peers, display their artwork to their friends and family, and celebrate awards for artworks selected by this year’s juror Lynn Goldstein.

Friday, March 25
Dr. Kress will meet with NOVA’s Student Government Association (SGA).
