A Recap of the President’s Activities, Week of April 11
Below are a few of the events and activities that President Kress participated in this week.
Monday, April 11:

Tuesday, April 12:
- Dr. Kress participated as a panelist at an event at the 123 Club, Tyson’s Corner. The panelists also included the Irma Becerra, president of Marymount University and Julie Coons, president and CEO of the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce. The three discussed the following: What are the critical issues facing businesses in recruiting, retaining the talent they need? What is your organization doing to help? What can we do to scale internship and apprenticeship programs in our region? We are losing too many young people – how can we keep them here? How do we get business and educational institutions (from K-12, community college, 4-year institutions) to collaborate? What resources are we offering to businesses and job seekers to attract them (or keep them here)? What back-to-work strategies are you hearing about?
Wednesday, April 13:
- Inside Higher Education (HE) President’s Roundtable via Zoom.
In the sixth installment in the series. In addition to Dr. Kress, other participants included presidents and chancellors from Delaware State University, Colorado Mountain College, University of Ill. Urbana-Champaign, Dillard University, Baylor University, University of Tenn-Knoxville, Colorado College, University of Albany, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, University of Massachusetts-Boston as well as Doug Lederman, founder of Inside Higher Ed. and Kasia Lundy, partner at EY Parthenon. The various panels answered questions like, What are your perspectives on the financial picture of higher ed.?What is the role of digital learning in your institution’s future? What is the role of digital work in your institution’s future? and Is the President / Chancellor job becoming more thankless?
Thursday, April 14:
- Dr. Kress hosted her monthly student Zoom office hours.
- Participated in her quarterly phone meeting with President Washington of George Mason University
- Met with the first Annandale Campus provost candidate:
Dr. Mike Holtzclaw, vice president of instruction, acting vice president of student services, College of San Mateo, San Mateo, Cal.
Friday, April 15:
- Dr. Kress will meet with the second Annandale Campus provost candidate:
Dr. Jerome Drain, associate vice chancellor of academic instruction, Houston Community College System
