Just Two More Days Until NOVA’s Inaugural Giving Day!

Today’s topic is NOVA’s inaugural Giving Day.

On Thursday, April 21, you can join thousands of NOVA supporters in participating in a day of giving and generosity that will make the difference for so many of our students.

The NOVA Foundation’s inaugural Giving Day is a 24-hour fundraising challenge for all members of our extended community. You are invited to be a part of what we hope will become NOVA’s biggest annual day of giving—a celebration of our amazing students and an investment in their success.

In our first year, we’re working to raise $42,000: $1,000 for each year that the NOVA Foundation has been assisting our students. Over this time, the Foundation has helped hundreds of thousands of NOVA students achieve their dreams of a college degree by providing much needed financial support.

As you know firsthand, the students who drop out of NOVA seldom do so for academic reasons. They leave because life gets in the way. Our amazing students face daily financial challenges as they strive to reach the stage at graduation: a flat tire or unexpected medical bill; the rising cost of food, rent and childcare; the demands of holding down two to three part-time jobs and a college schedule.

Far too often, our students simply disappear—faced with empty bank accounts and mounting college costs, they choose what they believe is the best of their hard choices and drop out. Their dreams of college degrees and brighter futures are gone. Only three in ten students who drop out of college ever return to complete a degree, and those who drop out earn, on average, $21,000 a year less than those who complete (Education Data Initiative).
