Viewing DEI Events: Don’t Miss Out!

April 20, 2022 / General NOVA News

Did you know that almost every event sponsored by the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion has been recorded and is available for viewing in the DEI Video Library? From dramatic performances, poetry readings, inspiring lectures and stirring concerts, the DEI Video Library offers a diverse selection of speakers and topics for staff and students.

These events include:

  • Award-winning educator and writer Javier Avila performing his celebrated one-man show, The Trouble with My Name;
  • Native American youth activist Nina Berglund discussing the epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous women throughout North America;
  • Angela Harrelson and Paris Stevens, the aunt and cousin of George Floyd, describing their beloved relative and the impact his death had on the world in 2020;
  • Hip hop stars Raw Poetic and Damu the Fudgemunk, joined by blues sensation Carly Harvey, in a rousing performance followed by an engrossing discussion about their music;
  • Pilot Amelia Rose Earhart describing the challenges she went through as she attempted to complete the around-the-world flight her historic namesake attempted years before
  • And much more!

The Office of DEI both puts on its own events and often facilitates the promotions and setup for DEI-related events by different departments. If you’re interested in working with the Office of DEI for an event tied to NOVA’s mission of inclusive excellence, please contact Sherrene DeLong.
