Entropy: From Biology to Cosmology, April 22
The Science Seminars are back! We have a special treat this coming Friday with a presentation by an astrophysicist, Nick Gorkavyi of NASA, who will discuss Entropy: from biology to cosmology; a topic that should be of interest across disciplines.
Friday, April 22, 12 p.m. until 1 p.m.
Annandale Campus, CA-302
Dr. Gorkavyi had written a marvelous series of books for kids about a girl who grew up alone on an asteroid after a space shuttle crash and came to change the world when after she was found. It is science fiction but all grounded in real world phenomena, has philosophical depth, and shows the triumph of human intellect. The heroine of the story is one of the best female role models in fiction, in my opinion. The Einstein School, where kids study in the series, has a certain Hogwarts feel to it, with the exception of science being the source of all the magic that happens there… An enjoyable read.
