Review Records Destruction Process Before, Not After
Spring cleaning? Records destruction is managed through the Library of Virginia’s Certificate of Records Destruction process.
A public record is defined as information that documents a transaction or activity by or with any public officer, agency or employee of an agency. The recorded information is a public record if it is produced, collected, received or retained in pursuance of law or in connection with the transaction of public business.
The Records Retention and Disposition Schedules identify when a set or series of records has reached the end of its usefulness.
For detailed instructions on how to submit a Certificate of Records Destruction (eRM3) form, please see NOVA’s eRM3 procedure here.
