Financial Aid Reminders for Summer 2022

May 10, 2022 / Our Nighthawks

Apply for Summer Aid:
Summer courses begin the week of May 16. Students should complete the 2021-2022 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit any items that may be requested on their NOVAConnect To Do List to be considered for summer financial aid. Click here for a tutorial.

View Anticipated Financial Aid:
Summer financial aid offered before May 28, 2022 (the 12-week term census date) is based on anticipated full-time enrollment. If students enroll in less than 12 eligible credits, their financial aid award may be reduced. To view anticipated financial aid based on current enrollment, students may log in to NOVAConnect and follow the instructions provided.

Summer Pell Grants:
If students received a Federal Pell Grant based on full-time enrollment in fall 2021 and in spring 2022, they must take at least six eligible credits during Summer 2022 to potentially receive a summer Federal Pell Grant. A lifetime Federal Pell Grant limit that equates to 12 full-time semesters applies. Also, note that summer grant eligibility is based on enrollment as of May 28, so students should register for all the courses they plan to take during the entire summer term by May 28.  Summer courses added on or after May 29 will not increase grant eligibility.

Purchase Books, Supplies and Laptops with Summer Aid:
If anticipated financial aid is more than what students owe for the summer semester, they may use their excess aid to purchase books, supplies or even a laptop through the NOVA Bookstore from May 2, 2022 – June 9, 2022. Click here for more information.

Reapply for Aid for 2022-2023:
Please remind students to reapply for financial aid for the upcoming 2022-2023 academic year as soon as possible so their eligibility for grants, loans and work-study opportunities can be determined for fall 2022. Click here for step-by-step instructions.
