Dr. Kimberly Wright Named NOVA’s New Director of Academic Planning and Advising

We are pleased to announce Dr. Kimberly U. Wright as the College’s new Director of Academic Planning and Advising beginning July 10th. She will oversee and work collaboratively to provide college-wide leadership of academic advising services to students. Dr. Wright will continue the work related to advising’s redesign, implementation of strategic initiatives, and rollout of the college-wide advising model.    

She has served as the college-wide Coordinator for Academic Standing and Retention Initiatives responsible for collaborating with campuses to implement a comprehensive college-wide vision of academic success and retention planning. Prior to her current role, she served on a special assignment as the College Outreach Director where she was instrumental in working with consultants and the campus outreach coordinators to establish a strategic enrollment plan, transition programs and service delivery during the pandemic. The leadership she provided to the campuses in the areas of recruitment and outreach, led to a 2 percent increase in HS enrollment, starting from a 35.8% decline of first year students for the Fall 2020 term. 

Dr. Wright has 20 years of service to the Annandale Campus in the following roles: Student Life Counselor, Transfer Counselor (where she established the college’s first Career & Transfer Center), Assistant Coordinator for Student Integrity & Conduct, Coordinator for the Center for Academic Assistance, and Coordinator of Student Success for the First Year Advising program.  In addition to her work supporting student and their success, she also coordinated the campus Faculty Advising Week programming, led faculty members in the Summer Structured Advising Program, and trained faculty to serve student advising needs.  

Dr. Wright earned her Ed.D. in Community College Leadership from Morgan State University; a M.Ed. in Education Administration from Salisbury University, and a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Please join us in congratulating her in this new role!
