Recognition Day Leave on July 1
VCCS has advised NOVA that we can award our Classified Staff and Professional/Administrative Faculty a day of recognition leave on Friday, July 1 to honor the incredible work you have done for our students and our college throughout this challenging year.
Recognition leave is being extended to the vast majority of employees in these three categories. Here are some additional details and answers to questions we have received:
- Eight hours of recognition leave for qualifying employees will be posted to their absence balances in the HCM system by this afternoon. I know you join me in thanking our amazing HR team for pulling this together so quickly!
- Please enter your recognition leave request for July 1 in the HCM system to ensure that the recognition leave is accurately recorded.
- If you have already been approved for leave on July 1, reach out to hradmin@nvcc.edu to have this leave reversed and replaced with the recognition leave.
- You must take your full eight hours of recognition leave on Friday unless you have been identified an essential worker who must work on July 1 (e.g., select employees within Public Safety, Facilities, IT) or identified by a Campus Provost as an employee required to be onsite on July 1 to support scheduled classes.
- For Essential and Required Employees: A day of recognition leave to be used in the future will be extended to any Classified Staff and Professional/Administrative Faculty who are required by their roles at NOVA to work onsite July 1. This includes essential employees in areas such as Public Safety, Facilities, and IT, and employees designated by Provosts to provide building coverage for scheduled on-campus classes.
- Teaching Faculty should hold summer classes as scheduled, though they can shift on-campus classes remote on July 1 if desired and appropriate.
- Wage employees (P14s) will not be scheduled on July 1. Because they do not qualify for recognition leave, P14s will be provided with an opportunity to make up these hours in the future so that they do not lose any pay.
NOVA is not closed on Friday. We will have classes and labs in session on our campuses, and groups onsite who have previously rented facilities.
We will post a banner on the website indicating that, while classes will be in session, NOVA’s offices and services will not be open on Friday. The banner will also remind everyone about the July 4th holiday on Monday.
If you have any questions, please reach out to hradmin@nvcc.edu.
Thank you for your continuing commitment to our college and students and your many contributions over the year as we emerged from the pandemic! I am grateful to you and proud to serve alongside you. Please enjoy Friday!
