CommonHealth Weekly Wellnote
What is Self-Care and Why is it Important? The term self-care describes the act a person takes in order to promote their own physical, mental, and emotional health. It is vital for building resilience toward stressors in life that you can’t eliminate. When you take steps to care for your mind and body, you are better equipped to live your best life. Some of the health benefits you can derive from an effective self-care routine include: reducing anxiety and depression, reducing stress and improving resilience, improving happiness, increased energy, reducing burnout, and developing stronger interpersonal relationships.
Self-care is about taking care of yourself mentally, physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. In order to care for your health and well-being, it is important to find a balance that allows you to address each of these areas. Remember, self-care isn’t a one size fits all strategy. Your self-care plan should be customized to your needs and what is currently going on in your life. The goal is to take steps each day to make sure that you are getting what you need to deal with the stress and challenges you face in your daily life.
