Shera White Joins NOVA as College Special Events Coordinator

NOVA welcomes Shera White as NOVA’s new special events coordinator! In this new and much needed role, Shera will work closely with NOVA’s senior leadership to support and assist with the planning, implementation and coordination of collegewide ceremonial and special events.

Prior to arriving at Northern Virginia Community College, Ms. White served as a senior special events coordinator for the City of Newport News (Va.), where she planned outdoor festivals, concerts and special ceremonies.

Shera’s collegiate experience includes roles as assistant athletic director for marketing & events for The Apprentice School and assistant commissioner for communications & media relations for the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). In those roles, she was responsible for planning awards banquets, championship tournaments, annual meetings and serving as the primary media contact for 16 sports.

She has served on numerous organizing committees and has had the ultimate privilege of working alongside the Office of the First Lady of the United States in coordinating Michelle Obama’s promotional appearance for the “Let’s Move!” initiative at the CIAA Basketball Tournament in Charlotte, N.C.

Ms. White is a certified festivals and events associate (CFEA), awarded by the International Festivals and Events Association and is trained in FEMA’s National Incident Management System (NIMS).
