Six Nighthawk Student-Athletes Earn Academic All-State
On Thursday, Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced its annual Academic All-State Team for the work of six NOVA Esports student-athletes in the classroom.
To qualify, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore with a minimum grade point average of 3.25. VaSID selects just six student-athletes per school for the all-academic honors, across 37 schools in Virginia.
For the second consecutive year, due to COVID-19 cancelling all in-person athletics at NOVA, Esports continued playing virtually winning three NJCAAE National Championships. The Nighthawks esports team also worked hard in the classroom earning a team GPA of 3.0.
The six Nighthawks earning the honors this season were Wilton Doherty (3.56 GPA), Amy Fritsch (3.91 GPA), John Killian (3.95 GPA), Kieran Redmond (4.00 GPA), Ricky Starr Jr. (3.93 GPA) and Jodrig Samonte (3.94 GPA).
