Gary Sargent Appointed as New MEC Dean of Nursing
The provost of the Medical Education Campus is pleased to announce that Gary Sargent has been appointed as NOVA’s new dean of nursing, effective, Monday, July 25!
Professor Sargent has been employed at the MEC for seven years as a teaching faculty in the Emergency Medical Services Program, as interim program director for the Fire Science Technology program and, most recently, serving in the role of EMS program director for the last three years. During his tenure as program director, he provided oversight in stabilizing the program through leadership transition as well as accreditation maintenance. He has experience in curriculum development, accreditation and budgeting. He has the distinction of service as the program director (CoAEMSP, National Registration and Va. OEMS) for one of the first CoAEMSP accredited paramedic programs in the United States.
Professor Sargent earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Liberty University in 2016; a master’s degree in nursing (educator pathway) from Liberty in 2020, an AAS in emergency medical services technology degree from NOVA and an AAS in nursing from J. Sargent Reynolds Community College in 2008. He holds a registered nurse licensure in Virginia and multi-state. Additional he is registered nationally and in Virginia as an EMT-Paramedic.
