NOVA P.D.’s Lt. John Weinstein Wins Writing Awards
NOVA Police Lt. John Weinstein, Ph.D. recently received three writing awards from the Public Safety Writers Association (PSWA), an international association of public safety professionals and journalists who write both fiction and non-fiction on public safety topics. Articles submitted for award consideration are judged by a panel of four judges who assign points on content, style, originality, etc. Authors’ names are removed from entries to make the judging as objective as possible.
Weinstein’s non-fiction entries received two second-place awards; one was for “Are We Failing our Officers? A Critique of Elevating Marksmanship Training Over Gun-Fighting,” which appeared in the International Association of Firearms Instructors Press Check magazine, and the other was for “Your Active Incident Plans Are Likely to Fail: Here’s Why and What You Can Do to Fix Them.” He also received a third-place award for “Dealing with Protesters: Maximizing Conflict While Protecting School Interests.” The latter two articles were published by Campus Safety magazine, the country’s leading publication on school and institutional safety and security.
Lieutenant Weinstein has been previously recognized and awarded by PSWA for some of the more than 35 published articles he has written since joining the NOVA Police Department in 2011.
