NOVA’s Public Safety Newsletter Wins Two State-wide Awards
The NOVA Public Safety Newsletter (PSN), distributed monthly by NOVA’s Police Department and the Office of Emergency Management and Safety, has won two more awards, this time from the Virginia Community College Association (VCCA) in its annual Excellence in Communications competition.
The PSN has won many VCCA awards over the years in its newsletter category. This year, the PSN took first place for its feature article on the retirement of Chief of Police Dan Dusseau and third place in the overall newsletter competition. The competition is stiff; most of the competing newsletters are produced by college communications and art departments. The PSN is the only public safety-related newsletter competing against these professional communicators.
The PSN is distributed monthly to faculty and staff via email and through the Daily Flyer to the College’s faculty and staff. Students receive it by email sent by Student Services. The newsletter contains articles that can help keep you and our campuses safe and empower you to play a positive role in your own safety and security. The PSN, which has been in publication for over ten years, has played a major role in the concomitant 90% reduction of reported crime on campus. Each newsletter also lists the more than 20 presentations the NOVA Police can bring in person or virtually to your classroom, workplace or community group.
You may review all PSNs here. To arrange for a police presentation to your class or group, please contact Lt. John Weinstein at jweinstein@nvcc.edu or call 571-422-9928.
