Online Discussion Workshop to Begin Aug. 29

August 25, 2022 / Tech Notes & Training

The U.S. Department of Education has implemented new regulations on distance education that went into effect July 1, 2021. One of the key elements to the new regulations is “regular and substantive interaction” (RSI) between students and instructors. Substantive interaction is engaging students in teaching, learning and assessment, consistent with the content under discussion and including some essential components of substantive interaction. Facilitating online discussions and providing feedback on students’ coursework are two essential components of substantive interaction. To help faculty and support NOVA’s compliance with the federal requirement, NOVA Online will offer the following two workshops in the fall semester:

  • Effectively Facilitating Online Discussions, Aug. 29 through Sept. 4
  • Providing Quality Feedback for Online Learners, Nov. 14 through Nov. 20

The workshops are offered asynchronously online in Canvas, and you can register at GSMU by selecting Online Teaching on the navigation menu. Questions or help? Please email Hong Wang at hwang@nvcc.edu.
