First Annandale Fall DEI Workshop, Sept. 2

August 29, 2022 / Events

Drs. Paul Fitzgerald and Cheri Spiegel, through the Annandale Center for Contemplative Practice, are proud to announce the first workshop of the year, “Pause: Using Mindfulness to Investigate our Norms and Habits.” The workshop will be held in CM-332 on the Annandale Campus on Friday, September 2 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., and is open for registration, as are all of our workshops for the upcoming fall semester! This workshop is the first in our series made possible through our DEI grant award. A vegetarian boxed lunch will be provided for all workshop attendees. For more information about this workshop, please click on the workshop title above for the Eventbrite registration information.

Additionally, we are also proud to officially announce that the Annandale Center for Contemplative Practice is now actively forming a NOVA community of changemakers! Part of the DEI grant that we received includes the opportunity to create a coalition of folks who are interested in doing the supportive work that DEI asks of us. Participants in experiences related to this topic will:

  1. work together through the Mindful Self-Compassion Workbook (provided!) throughout the 2022-2023 academic year;
  2. have access to monthly community support/collaborative mentorship sessions during the 2022-2023 academic year;
  3. have the opportunity to facilitate small group (3 to 4 people) book discussions around the books, “Say What You Mean” and “Mindful of Race” during spring 2023;
  4. plan a fall 2023 professional development offering that builds from the expertise of their small group and the insights gained from “DEI on the Inside” NOVA InNOVAtion grant;
  5. have access to a dedicated, private Canvas group.

Anyone from any of our campuses and centers may participate in this opportunity, including members of standing committees and working groups who are interested in participating in a supportive community to do the work that we are called to do. This coalition will support us as we do the internal work to align ourselves with our best intentions, and also can form the basis of support in terms of best practices, processes and college administrative navigation. Offering the work of our hearts can be complex! It’s good to do it together with a supportive community. To declare your interest in joining this coalition, please click the ACCP Changemakers Coalition link (external site) and complete the intake form. The initial meeting will be held Friday, September 16.

Thank you for all the love and support you have given us as we start this adventure! Click here to join the ACCP Canvas group where you can get updates hot off the presses!
