Benjamin Gilman International Scholarship Application Cycle Open
Five NOVA students have received the Benjamin Gilman International Scholarship in the past two years! Your students could be next!
Do you know students interested in Studying Abroad in 2023? The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program enables students to study or intern abroad, providing them with critical skills necessary to be successful in the future. Gilman is now accepting applications for in-person and virtual study abroad programs and provides funding up to $5,000. Students can find more information about the Gilman Scholarship application here. The application deadline is Oct. 6, 2022, at 8:59 p.m. (11:59 p.m., Pacific Time) for applicants whose in-person programs or internships start between December 1, 2022 to October 31, 2023. They should apply as soon as possible!
Receiving this scholarship will make students more competitive for jobs, other scholarships and admission to graduate programs. Additionally, NOVA students who are child dependents of active duty service members have access to $5,000 through the U.S. Department of State’s Gilman-McCain Scholarship to study or intern abroad on credit-bearing programs.
To be eligible for the Gilman Scholarship, an applicant must be:
- A citizen of the United States
- An undergraduate student in good academic standing at an accredited institution of higher education in the United States (including both two-year and four-year institutions)
- Receiving a Federal Pell Grant or provide proof that he/she will be receiving a Pell Grant at the time of application or during the term of his/her study abroad program or internship
- In the process of applying to, or accepted for, a study abroad or internship program of at least two weeks for community college students and three weeks for students from four-year institutions, in a single country and eligible for credit from the student’s home institution
- Applying for credit-bearing study abroad programs in a country or area with an overall Travel Advisory Level 1 or 2, according to the U.S. Department of State’s Travel Advisory System. However, certain locations within these countries or areas may be designated within the Travel Advisory as either “Do not travel to” (Level 4) or “Reconsider travel to” (Level 3) locations, as such; students will not be allowed to travel to these specific locations. Moreover, students are not eligible to apply for programs in a country or area with an overall Level 3 or 4 Travel Advisory.
