Third DEI Innovation Grant Workshop on Global Competence, Sept. 16

September 2, 2022 / Events

Thanks to the Office of DEI and the NOVA Foundation, a four-part workshop series for faculty has launched this year! NOVA Online, in collaboration with the Office of International Education and Sponsored Programs (OIESP), offers four one-hour workshops on Zoom–two in the spring and two in the fall. Through promoting inclusive learning environments and authentic engagement, we hope to help faculty connect and engage all students in learning. While targeting faculty who are teaching hybrid and online courses, all NOVA faculty are welcome and can benefit from this workshop. The first 60 faculty attending all four workshops will receive a free book about culturally responsive teaching!

The third workshop, “Developing Instructional Strategies to integrate Global Competence into Your Course,” is scheduled from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday, September 16. Incorporating an international perspective into a course begins with good planning and instruction. In this interactive session, faculty participants will begin to integrate global perspectives by examining their learning outcomes for global connections, cultural relevance and authentic learning. We will then explore multiple ways that instructional strategies can be leveraged to teach globally relevant content to enrich all students’ learning experience while meeting intended learning outcomes. Faculty participants should come with a course syllabus that they would like to integrate with an international perspective in order to connect and engage all students for inclusive excellence in learning.
