September Is Healthy Aging Month

In their efforts to discover and share secrets of healthy aging, NIA developed this toolkit.  It raises awareness about the importance of exercise as you age. Visit their page for more health information articles and recent research about exercise and physical activity. Please note that they offer a rich selection of helpful resources in Spanish as well.

The Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) also provides a treasure trove of information such as Protect Your Health As You Grow Older – MyHealthfinder | health.gov.

Take advantage of these resources to guard and protect your health as well as those you care for.

Tips To Boost Your Health as You Age

You know that making lifestyle changes can help you live longer and better. If you haven’t already, try these tips to get started.

  • Get moving with NOVA Move It! Monday — try gardening, biking, walking, or dancing.
    • Salsa anyone- Join AARP and attendees from across the U.S. for a FREE virtual Salsa Dance Class on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at 6:30 pm ET | 5:30 pm CT | 4:30 pm MT | 3:30 pm PT – AARP membership not required.
  • Choose healthy foods rich in nutrients.
  • Manage stress — try a free NOVA REC Well yoga Zoom class.
  • Keep a journal.
  • Learn something new — Join the NOVA Makers program at the NOVA Fab Lab. This resource is free to NOVA faculty and staff. 
  • Go to the doctor for your regular check-ups.
  • Partner with family and friends.
