DEI on the Inside Workshop: Thinking and Uncovering Harmful Habits, Oct. 7
Open seats remain for the DEI grant-supported workshop, “Reflect: Discovering Patterns of Thinking and Uncovering Harmful Habits.”
Reflection is a tool that helps us examine ourselves and the environment we’ve been working within. It can be challenging because it asks us to see both the parts of us we’re proud of as well as those that are more difficult to accept. The quality of our reflection is also impacted by the tools and lenses we bring to our investigation. Not all mirrors are created equal, after all!
This workshop invites participants to consider how mindfulness can be used as a self-compassionate tool for reflection and self-assessment. Using meditation and writing exercises, participants will be given the opportunity to examine their ways of being, noticing both points of pride and areas for growth. Participants will be invited to:
- Use mindfulness tools to investigate ways of being;
- Identify reflection practices useful in investigating ways of thinking;
- Notice patterns and habits and emerge within them; and
- Articulate how patterns and habits impact culture and community.
This workshop is supported by the NOVA Foundation and the office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion via a DEI InNOVAtion Grant. A vegetarian boxed lunch will be provided to all participants. It will be held on Friday, October 7, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Room CM-332 on the Annandale Campus. A vegetarian boxed lunch will be provided for all participants.
