NOVA Employees: Plan Early and Often To Secure Your Financial Future

October 6, 2022 / HR News/Training

October is National Retirement Security Month! The goal is to raise your awareness about the importance of saving for your future. It’s also a great time to check and see how you’re doing on your savings journey so far.

There are significant benefits to planning early and often to secure your financial future. Your Employee Wellness Office encourages you to practice ongoing learning to ensure you are equipped to make the best possible choices about your retirement at the start of your career or as you move towards the end. We will continue curating a selection of resources that can help empower you to make wise financial decisions to ensure your financial stability.

Now is the right time to prepare for Retirement.

Many employees of the college are covered by the VRS pension plan. Are you one of them? Do you know how that plan works with Social Security benefits? Learn more by registering and attending this upcoming session that will take place virtually on Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m.

Understanding VRS & Social Security Payout Options

The expectations of workers planning for retirement are often very different from the experiences current retirees report. It is important to understand the basics and benefits of the Social Security program. Social Security benefits are intended to merely supplement your retirement income, so you should also consider your other sources of income that can assist in building a bridge to help offset the gap left by Social Security.

Secure your spot for this virtual session hosted by Bill Jolly of AIG/VALIC for NOVA on Wednesday, Oct. from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. to better understand Social Security basics, review how VRS benefits are calculated, provide insight into payment options and ask questions.
