Explore the Foodways Exhibit at AL Today at 10
Please join the Alexandria Campus DEI Committee; the Dr. Jean Braden Center for Women, Gender & Social Equity and other collaborators for this one-time pop-up museum—the Foodways Exhibit—and various concurrent activities taking place until October 24. The exhibit, over 40 presentations and sessions will feature, recognize and celebrate (but not limited to) Hispanic, Latin, African, Arab, Asian, European, Native American, African American, diasporas and various faith traditions. Through food, we will illuminate people, cultures, histories and traditions from everywhere across the world and learn about its impact on daily matters. Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Cote d’Ivoire, Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Ghana, Egypt, El Salvador, South Africa, Turkey, Morocco, Sudan, Iraq, Mexico, Nigeria, India, Cuba and Afghanistan are among (but not limited to) several countries directly represented.
In all aspects of life, food is ubiquitous and at the centerpiece of it all. Food is the common ingredient for facilitation and in our foundations: family; faith; festivity; friendship; foreign relations (diplomacy); finance (economy); farming (agriculture); forecast (climate change and the environment); forces (military); fitness (health, wellness, and nutrition); feeding (baby and toddler nourishment) and freedom.
Food uniquely brings people together during times of happiness and hardship. We welcome everyone to the table. Tour the exhibit, share your food stories, taste new foods, experience different cultures, engage with others and join us for the programs—there will be some free prizes/giveaways!
