Experience the Food of Jerusalem at a Free Lunch Buffet, Oct. 25

October 24, 2022 / Events

As the Foodways Exhibit concludes, we are taking the show on the road. Join us for a mobile program, Food, Faith, Family & Friendship: The Food of Jerusalem. The program will be held at Bawadi Restaurant on Tuesday, October 25 at 2 p.m.

As we gather for this important conversation, admission will give you access to a free lunch buffet—yes, all you want to eat. Special guests from the Abrahamic faiths—Christianity, Islam and Judaism—will be participating to share the food traditions of each religion. People from other traditions and ways of life will also be welcomed and integrated into the discussion. In addition, we will meet Bawadi’s owners and food entrepreneurs as we learn about their journey and contributions to the local food environment.

Special Guests

  • Reverend Becca Messman, Burke Presbyterian Church
  • Saif Rahman; Government Relations Director, Dar Al Hijrah Islamic Center
  • Rabbi Jeffrey Saxe, Temple Rodef Shalom
  • Imam Farhan Siddiqui, Dar Al Hijrah Islamic Center

With food as the facilitator—bringing people together, appreciating our commonalities and recognizing our humanity—we can foster unity, peace and prosperity for all human beings and preserve the precious global environment (including food) and sacred lands (all of the Earth); provisions that the Creator has provided and entrusted us with.

Admission
Since capacity is extremely limited, admission will require confirmation to ensure availability. Note: Admission is not guaranteed unless you receive confirmation by the organizer that you can attend. If interested, email Mohamed Ali at mmali@nvcc.edu by 3 p.m. on Monday, October 24.
