Call for Nominations for Faculty and Classified Staff Emeritus Status

The call for nominations for faculty and classified staff emeritus status is now open. To be eligible to be nominated for emeritus status this year, an employee must have retired from Northern Virginia Community College on or before November 18, 2022 after a minimum of five years of full-time service to the College and a minimum of ten years of service in the Virginia Community College System, and must have made meritorious and significant contributions to the College and/or the VCCS. Generally, teaching faculty must hold the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.

Please submit Form 105-152 for all categories of retired employees. Retired employees nominated for emeritus status will be reviewed by the ad hoc Emeritus Committee appointed by the President. All nominations recommended by the ad hoc Emeritus Committee will be sent to the College Board in January 2023 for final approval.

The following is a list of privileges to accompany emeritus status:

1. Presented with a plaque acknowledging their emeritus status.
2. Invited as honored guests at the College Service Awards luncheon the year of their approval.   
3.  Faculty/staff parking privileges.
4.  Emeritus ID card.
5.  Emeritus business cards (if requested).
6.  Faculty/staff discount at College bookstores.
7.   Listing in the College Catalog, with identification of emeritus status.
8.   Welcome to attend special events, concerts, presentations, or lectures sponsored by the College.
9.  Receive selected College publications.

In addition, holders of Professor Emeritus and Administrative/Professional Faculty Emeritus status may participate in the academic procession at Commencement and will march at the head of the faculty.
