NOVA Libraries: Feature Film Friday
NOVA Libraries’ Feature Film Friday continues. This series highlights films that are available to the campus community through our Streaming Video Collections. Each Friday, we feature a different film being used by faculty to support college programming and coursework. All of the content in our Streaming Video Collections is available for free to everyone in the NOVA community and can be accessed from anywhere. This week, we are highlighting Professor Kristin Hagan’s (AL) use of the film Outsourced in her BUS-280: International Business class. During the process of selecting materials for her class, Professor Hagan worked closely with Melanie Medina (AN) at NOVA Libraries to find videos related to the course content. One such video was this week’s featured film! Outsourced has been an excellent resource for students, both because it informs their learning and because it is freely available to them through NOVA Libraries. This film’s lighthearted depiction of topics in international business, including cultural diversity, importing and exporting challenges, global expansion and exit strategies, corporate acquisitions and global business ethics. It contextualizes these issues in a fun and engaging way. By watching Outsourced, students are able to see how prevalent outsourcing has become for businesses in the United States and gain a better understanding of the narrow mindset of some western businesses.
This week’s film is available for streaming through Kanopy, a platform that NOVA Libraries uses to purchase individual titles for classroom use. Although these films are primarily used for coursework, they can also be watched outside of class for fun, which we hope you’ll do with our featured films each week!
