NOVA Welcomes New Title IX Coordinator
After a national search, NOVA is pleased to announce that Laura L. Buchs has been named as NOVA’s new Title IX coordinator. The Title IX Coordinator reports to the Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer (CDEIO) and serves the College at large.
Laura brings an extraordinary record of leadership and a proven legal background in Title IX policy and procedures to this role. Prior to coming to NOVA, she served as the director and Title IX coordinator at the University of New Hampshire and previously as the deputy Title IX coordinator at Loyola University in Chicago. As part of a Presidential Management Fellowship (PMF) after law school, Laura also received a prestigous award from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs for her work on training VA employees in the assessment of claims for benefits based on military sexual trauma. Some of her other prior roles include: EEO compliance manager at the University of New Mexico, manager and investigator for equity and diversity compliance at California State University Northridge and as an attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice. Laura earned her Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from the University of Wisconsin Law School and a master’s degree in Sociology from American University.
NOVA’s Title IX coordinator leads efforts across the college to ensure NOVA is in compliance with federal Title IX policies. The Title IX coordinator responds to reports, delivers trainings, oversees investigations and works in partnership with NOVA’s campuses and offices to enhance the College’s services, education and outreach on reducing sexual misconduct, gender discrimination, harassment and sexual violence as defined by Title IX laws and policies.
Please join me in welcoming Laura to NOVA to extend the College’s commitment to inclusive excellence.
