WO Sociology Professor Set to Publish Third Book

December 2, 2022 / Faculty/Staff Highlights

Congratulations to Woodbridge Campus sociology professor, Jessica Potter, whose third book, Culturally Created Criminals: An Introduction to Criminology, will be published in spring 2023. Her first two books were Peace, Love, and Sociology and The WORLD is Our Lab: An Introduction to Sociology.

Her new book takes the reader on a journey through our society and criminal justice system, told through the words of a long-time college educator and self-professed true crime junkie. She blends her combination of sociological and legal knowledge with pop culture for the perfect college text or for a fun criminology read. Real life cases and analysis, questions to consider and additional activities all lend themselves to perfect classroom companions.

In her first semester, Prof. Potter has already created a Sociology Club and hosted a session about sociology during Advising Week. She has more than 11 years of experience in higher education including teaching, course building, writing and working as a subject matter expert.

She earned a J.D. from West Virginia University College of Law, an M.A. from Marshall University and a B.A. from West Virginia University.
