NOVA Police Host DARE Training at Loudoun Campus
Twenty-seven law enforcement officers from Montana, Kentucky and Virginia spent two weeks at NOVA’s Loudoun Campus in training for a rigorous 80-hour DARE instructor course.
DARE, which stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education, has been in elementary and middle schools since 1987.
The DARE program focuses on the importance of students making safe and responsible choices to have positive outcomes in difficult situations. Specifically, DARE students learn strategies to avoid and resist drug-related situations and associated negative peer stress and pressure, regarding the dangers of tobacco and alcohol use.
Loudoun Provost, Dr. Julie Leidig, attended the final day’s class to congratulate the officers on their graduation. She also thanked the Loudoun Campus Police for hosting the training that educates students and furthers the effectiveness of police outreach and transparency.
